My perspective of my college career thus far...with a little AΓΔ love.

It continues to fascinate me the different views that people have on higher education. It baffles me that anyone would go to college just to go, that some people genuinely do not care about their grades, appearance to others, or their financial well-being. Then there's the other half that does care, but struggles to make it through. I guess I just don't understand why anyone would want to waste their time doing something that's not really enjoyable at all without any motivation of a common goal. College isn't all about the social aspects, the partying, the clubs. They're AWESOME, and Alpha Gam is a perfect example of that. But grades and student success come above all to me, and shouldn't they to everyone? I wonder every day what some of these people's parents would say if they could see the way they act in class...or better yet the way they don't even bother to go to class. I also wonder how people who aren't involved on campus succeed: especially those who are not from the place they're going to school in, in this case Mobile. If it wasn't for AGD, I don't think I could have possibly made it through last semester at all much less come out with the highest GPA I've ever had. Sisterhood gets me through my day. The standards for grades and campus involvement motivate me to do my best, and we all know school comes first. Moving away from home made me feel like a small child again. Completely dependent on my parents, my friends, my family. Used to driving down the same roads all the time and knowing exactly where I'm going...it's nice to have this experience. I sometimes ask myself why I did it. I lived in a big university town, but it became bland. My life was bland even though I had everything I needed all around me. I feel like I've become a better version of myself. A more independent, confident, and successful student and person. I always wanted to be in "a sorority." I guess I just didn't realize how much of a difference it makes which one. I didn't understand the true meaning of greek life until I met these girls...and now they mean more to me than I could explain. It's kinda strange at first, like an instant new family that's always there for you to hang out with or to lean on. But ultimately it's a wonderful experience and it keeps me in line and doing what I'm supposed to do, what I need to do to be the best possible version of myself. I feel like I do live with purpose now. And that. Feels. Great.

Untitled.

When I'm in your arms
I know in my heart
That we'll always be together
I've known it from the start.
No matter how long we're apart,
It stays the same.
I never thought I could feel
The way I do when I'm with you
I am who I am because of you.
We're not perfect.
 And we never will be
But no matter the reason
We get angry or sad
It's all okay at the end of the day
And no matter what stupid things we say
We know this is love.
You know me better than I know myself
I don't know where I would be
But I wouldn't be me without you
Booboo,
I adore you.

December is Here!

I'm so excited for Christmas break. I can't wait to see my sister, spend time with my family and the love of my life, and relax with no work or school to think about. Usually I'm excited about getting awesome things for Christmas. I discovered this year that I've taken time with my loved ones for granted. But never again, because I realize now how precious every moment is. As for my wonderful friends and sisters at South, I will miss them. But I guess you can't have everything all at once!!
I'm freaking out about finals and these last minute papers I have to write, but I'm trying not to stress out too bad (yeah right). But I think I can handle it. Next semester will be a doozie, but I'm trying to finish school as efficiently as possible. As of now, I am planning to graduate December of 2014. I really hope that happens (or sooner, that's okay too but I doubt it).
Another thing I am looking forward to for Christmas break is seeing all my old friends in Tuscaloosa! I feel like I've really lost touch with a lot of them and I need to get it together and catch up! It's gonna be a great month, December. I hope everyone's holiday season is fantastic! :)

"The Now"

They say your life flies by
They say you'll regret wishing for everything to go faster
Knowing that, why do we still do it?
As much as I'm ready
To move on with my life
I want to cherish the now
Let it go by slow
But it won't slow down
I can't slow down
I'm 20 years old
That's nothing, I know
But to me
It means a chapter of my life is over
And I can't get it back
It means I'm closer to starting my life
Getting done with school
Marriage, kids, everything
And I'm so excited
But what if that goes by just as fast?
They say it feels like the blink of an eye
When your kids grow up and move out of the house
That's terrifying
I'm so looking forward but so afraid
So worried that it'll be over in a flash
But I'll keep my head up
And stop wishing for the days to fly by
To get to what lies ahead
I'm gonna slow down
Enjoy the now
And breathe.

"I Love the Drive"

I drive home every couple of weeks
To see Ryan and my family
But the weekends just aren't long enough
And I never get to see everyone
I miss South when I'm home
I miss home when I'm here
I hate the commute
But I love the drive
It gives me a chance to clear my mind
It gives me a chance to breathe
To think about how lucky I am
To have so many people that care about me

Yellow lines broken up coming at me fast
Pine trees blowing in the wind
Speeding cars, headlights
Traffic cops, night sky
Peace and quiet
Loud music
Whatever I want
Cause it's just me

On the ride back to Mobile
I always feel torn
I'm glad to get back
But sad to leave home
Feel like a long-distance relationship
Is much easier said than done
But I'll get through it
I'm happy where I am
Even though I can't be with him
And it gives me something to look forward to
We'll be together soon
And a lifetime is worth much more than a couple of years

Yellow lines broken up coming at me fast
Pine trees blowing in the wind
Speed limits, road work
Slow people, winding country road
Peace and quiet
Loud music
Whatever I want
Cause it's just me

No matter what happens
I'll always know
I made the right decision
I finally made the move

I hate the commute
But I love the drive
It gives me a chance to clear my mind
It gives me a chance to breathe
To think about how lucky I am
To have so many people that care about me

Yellow lines broken up coming at me fast
Pine trees blowing in the wind
Speeding cars, headlights
Traffic cops, night sky
Peace and quiet
Loud music
Whatever I want
Cause it's just me
Speed limits, road work
Slow people, winding country road
Peace and quiet
Loud music
Whatever I want
Cause it's just me

I love the drive
It gives me a chance to clear my mind

"Sisters- Old and New"

Sisters are who guide you through your life
And get you through your day
Who are there for you when you're down
And come to you when they are
Sisters have strong friendships
Whether close or far away
Whether blood relative or best friends
Sisters will hold your hand in a scary movie
Cover you with a blanket when you're cold
Lend you anything you need
Answer the phone late at night
Sisters help you when you're struggling
Build you up and never tear you down
Sisters believe in each other
And always have each other's back
Sisters don't hold grudges
Or judge or jeopardize each other
Sisters love each other unconditionally
Sisters are forever.

I miss my sister, Lindsay, every day, but I am comforted by my best friends/sisters of Alpha Gamma Delta. I feel more at home as the semester goes by, and I'm thankful to have such a great group of girls that care about me and that I can count on. This poem is for all of my sisters, Lindsay and the lovely ladies of ΑΓΔ. I love you guys!

Spilled Milk

Everyone always says not to fuss over spilled milk. But milk can ruin things! There is milk on my favorite blanket and idk if it's gonna come out! This whole weekend has been like spilled milk for me. It was going great and everything was awesome until it went sour and Ryan had to leave. So you know what, you go ahead and fuss over spilled milk...cause it sucks!

In other news...I am now an initiated sister of Alpha Gamma Delta, and it feels wonderful! The more attached to South I get the more I miss Ryan, and home. Sometimes I really wish I could just convince him and my parents to move here or just pick up the city of Tuscaloosa and move it closer to here. Unfortunately I can't do either of those things.

ELECTION DAY is coming up! Tuesday, November 6th. Don't forget to vote, people! No matter what your political affiliation is, it is important that you contribute and let your voice be heard! (Plus, you get to wear a sticker all day)

I saw a movie preview today that made me sick. Not literally of course, but it was still pretty sad. Folks, get ready, cause it looks like they're making a sequel to that terrible atrocity The Collector. This one's called The Collection. I will most likely be renting a la Redbox after it comes out on DVD to make fun of how ridiculously awful it is, but you best believe I'm not spending my money on that plotless terrible excuse for a horror film.

Friends are what get us through the day, make us laugh, and are there for us when we're down. I am grateful for my friends, old and new. And I miss my sister. 51 days until Christmas.

 Goodnight, Moon.
