"I Love the Drive"

I drive home every couple of weeks
To see Ryan and my family
But the weekends just aren't long enough
And I never get to see everyone
I miss South when I'm home
I miss home when I'm here
I hate the commute
But I love the drive
It gives me a chance to clear my mind
It gives me a chance to breathe
To think about how lucky I am
To have so many people that care about me

Yellow lines broken up coming at me fast
Pine trees blowing in the wind
Speeding cars, headlights
Traffic cops, night sky
Peace and quiet
Loud music
Whatever I want
Cause it's just me

On the ride back to Mobile
I always feel torn
I'm glad to get back
But sad to leave home
Feel like a long-distance relationship
Is much easier said than done
But I'll get through it
I'm happy where I am
Even though I can't be with him
And it gives me something to look forward to
We'll be together soon
And a lifetime is worth much more than a couple of years

Yellow lines broken up coming at me fast
Pine trees blowing in the wind
Speed limits, road work
Slow people, winding country road
Peace and quiet
Loud music
Whatever I want
Cause it's just me

No matter what happens
I'll always know
I made the right decision
I finally made the move

I hate the commute
But I love the drive
It gives me a chance to clear my mind
It gives me a chance to breathe
To think about how lucky I am
To have so many people that care about me

Yellow lines broken up coming at me fast
Pine trees blowing in the wind
Speeding cars, headlights
Traffic cops, night sky
Peace and quiet
Loud music
Whatever I want
Cause it's just me
Speed limits, road work
Slow people, winding country road
Peace and quiet
Loud music
Whatever I want
Cause it's just me

I love the drive
It gives me a chance to clear my mind

"Sisters- Old and New"

Sisters are who guide you through your life
And get you through your day
Who are there for you when you're down
And come to you when they are
Sisters have strong friendships
Whether close or far away
Whether blood relative or best friends
Sisters will hold your hand in a scary movie
Cover you with a blanket when you're cold
Lend you anything you need
Answer the phone late at night
Sisters help you when you're struggling
Build you up and never tear you down
Sisters believe in each other
And always have each other's back
Sisters don't hold grudges
Or judge or jeopardize each other
Sisters love each other unconditionally
Sisters are forever.

I miss my sister, Lindsay, every day, but I am comforted by my best friends/sisters of Alpha Gamma Delta. I feel more at home as the semester goes by, and I'm thankful to have such a great group of girls that care about me and that I can count on. This poem is for all of my sisters, Lindsay and the lovely ladies of ΑΓΔ. I love you guys!

Spilled Milk

Everyone always says not to fuss over spilled milk. But milk can ruin things! There is milk on my favorite blanket and idk if it's gonna come out! This whole weekend has been like spilled milk for me. It was going great and everything was awesome until it went sour and Ryan had to leave. So you know what, you go ahead and fuss over spilled milk...cause it sucks!

In other news...I am now an initiated sister of Alpha Gamma Delta, and it feels wonderful! The more attached to South I get the more I miss Ryan, and home. Sometimes I really wish I could just convince him and my parents to move here or just pick up the city of Tuscaloosa and move it closer to here. Unfortunately I can't do either of those things.

ELECTION DAY is coming up! Tuesday, November 6th. Don't forget to vote, people! No matter what your political affiliation is, it is important that you contribute and let your voice be heard! (Plus, you get to wear a sticker all day)

I saw a movie preview today that made me sick. Not literally of course, but it was still pretty sad. Folks, get ready, cause it looks like they're making a sequel to that terrible atrocity The Collector. This one's called The Collection. I will most likely be renting a la Redbox after it comes out on DVD to make fun of how ridiculously awful it is, but you best believe I'm not spending my money on that plotless terrible excuse for a horror film.

Friends are what get us through the day, make us laugh, and are there for us when we're down. I am grateful for my friends, old and new. And I miss my sister. 51 days until Christmas.

 Goodnight, Moon.

Memories

Follow me down
To the old oak tree
Where the sunshine shines
And the blackbirds sing
On the top of the hill
By the little house
Where all you can hear
Is the sound of that warm summer breeze
Past the flower garden and the tomato plants
To the evergreen tree and the homemade swing

Lay down a blanket
And lie in the grass
Look up at the clouds as they pass
And laugh

Come with me
To my childhood memories
At the big tree with the swing on the hill

Take a ride with me
To the cemetery
On the 3 wheeler we've had for years
Or down to the swamp
Where we used to swim and fish
And shoot cans with a beebee gun

Kick off your shoes
And dig your toes in the mud
A the bottom of the flooded road
Listen to the locusts buzz and the owls hoot
To the water rushing by

Sit on the porch
And watch the cars go by
And enjoy the little things in life

Remember the good times
Playing Clue at the table
Unplanned visits
And Saturday mornings
Daddy dancing on the tractor
Momma braiding my hair

Follow me to my memories
To the place that made me Me

"Every Morning is a Chance to a New Day" -Unknown

I found out recently that I'm going to graduate much later than I thought because of my change of major and transfers. At first, I was really upset and discouraged because I have always put my all into my schoolwork and I've never taken less than 15 hours of classes per semester.
But then I realized that this is another semester for me to be a young college student. This means I have a little more time before I have to be an adult in the real world. As excited and ready to be out of school as I am, I am terrified. I know I will love teaching and marriage and kids and all that jazz, but I don't want to miss out on the parties and the Alpha Gam stuff and the friendships that come with college.
The entire time I've been in school I've had the mindset that I'm powering through to get done as fast as I can so I can start my career. I realized this semester that this is completely the wrong way to look at things. I'm looking so much forward to graduating, but with this attitude I'm letting this experience rush by. Now that I'm in Alpha Gamma Delta, I have a whole new network of friends and things to do and I don't want that to rush by. I want to savor and enjoy my time here.
There's nothing I can do about graduating late because I'm already planning to take a semester's workload over the summer, so I might as well have a positive attitude. Plus, I recently found out that two of my sisters will be graduating with me in fall 2014. So I'm going to be optimistic about it, and hope my parents don't resent me for having to pay for another semester (and I know they don't- but boy do I feel kinda bad).
It's time to change my outlook on my life. It's time to stop anticipating the future and enjoy the present. Tomorrow morning, I will wake up and be happy I have two years left in school.

Self Esteem

Sometimes it's hard to see how much potential you have and how beautiful you are when you're looking at yourself. It's easy to be self conscious and not see what other people see in you. But the next time you look in the mirror, try to strip away all the negative and harsh opinions about yourself, and just see your reflection as it is. Remember that the media's depiction of the ideal person is not what you have to be to be attractive, and that a lot of it is edited with computers. Don't compare yourself to other people. Most importantly, if you are concerned about your weight, don't fish for complements by talking about how fat you think you are all the time. You're not fat. You may have fat, but so does everyone else. Relax, be  yourself, and accept the fact that you are flawless just the way you are. This isn't an easy thing to do, we all look in the mirror and think of things we want to change about ourselves. But it's not healthy to think like that. A wise person once said "you can't love someone unless you love yourself."
